Wedding Feast - Matthew 22:11-14

I love weddings. I always get a 50-yard-line seat as the guy lucky enough to help the bride and groom tie the knot. Man, I've done $50,000 weddings where we came in in Rolls Royces. And you know what? I've done $50 weddings.

Family Discussions:

  1. What was the most beautiful wedding you have attended?
  2. What made it special?
  3. Will you be at the wedding feast of the Lamb?

Episode Transcription:

00:14 "Oh, baby!" my daddy used to say when he'd look at my mom. After 66 years of marriage, he was still saying, "Oh, baby!" There's something about a wedding veil. There's something about a wedding. Let me tell you about a wedding today.

00:26 Matthew 22 verse 11. This is a sobering story about a wedding. Jesus says this, "But when the king came to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without your wedding clothes on?' And the man was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness in that place where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.'"

01:02 Hey, I love weddings. I always get a 50-yard-line seat as the guy lucky enough to help the bride and groom tie the knot. Man, I've done $50,000 weddings where we came in in Rolls Royces. And you know what? I've done $50 weddings, and by the way, there was one wedding where the bride was very poor, and she only had $100 to spend on the whole wedding. I'm telling you, because of her godliness, it was the most beautiful wedding I've ever done in my life. But no matter how much you spend on a wedding, as long as you can say, "I do," and stand by it for about 75 years, it really doesn't matter what the price tag is.

01:44 Man, the most incredible moment, maybe, of all moments is the second the bride enters the chamber. The bride, actually walks down the aisle, and she is adorned in this beautiful, delicate, white lace. Guys, I'm going to tell you something, it will make you faint in awe if you're not prepared. There is nothing on earth like a bride adorned for her husband. As my kids say, "It is awesome!" It's only true because I limit my statement to what's on this earth because there's one more set of wedding clothes that only true believers and followers of Christ will ever wear, and of course, that's the wedding clothes we wear to the Union of God's children, that's the bride, to Jesus Christ who is the groom. On that fantastic day when we'll meet him face to face. Yes, it will be a wedding feast. Yes, it will blow your mind when you arrive, and yes, God makes it crystal clear that the only ones welcome are those who are clothed in the righteousness of Christ and only Jesus could make one of these for somebody as undeserving as me.
