Using Your Crown for His Glory - Romans 15:18-21

"Preaching Christ happens in a whole lot of ways besides in a church pulpit. Man, I watched my son's best friend, Jill Bronner, the homecoming queen of the high school, preach Christ all over the high school. Even though probably no one remembers a word she said. She preached it by the way she lived."

Family Discussions:

  1. In practical ways, how can you preach the Gospel in places where it's never been preached before?
  2. Where is a mission field that you can enter today?
  3. What are some practical ways that you can preach the gospel besides using words?

00:14 Man, as I think about this devotional today day, I just get so excited thinking about, uh, people that are heroes to me. Some of them, you know, kids and some of them are adults that I'd look eye to eye with. But check these verses out and see if this devotional becomes exciting and life changing to you as well. Romans 15 verses 18 through 21, it says this, "for I will not presume to speak of anything except which Christ has accomplished through me. Resulting in the obedience of the gentiles by word, indeed in power and signs and wonders in the power of the spirit so that from Jerusalem and roundabout, as far as Lacranium, I have fully preached the Gospel of Christ." You know what? Preaching Christ happens in a whole lot of ways besides in a church pulpit. Man, I watched my son's best friend, Jill Bronner, the homecoming queen of the high school, preach Christ all over the high school.

01:17 Even though probably no one remembers a word she said. She preached it by the way she lived. That little girl's commitment to purity. I mean, just in every possible way. Purity from alcohol, purely from sex, purity from drugs. Just the way she loved people, you know, high school boyfriend for a whole year and everybody assumed was probably they're drinking, you know, small town having sex and whatever. Not hardly, not, not my little buddy Jill. And then there was Cooper's buddy Erin. Erin Teeter, who was just always leading high school kids to youth group. Always leading her friends to church, you know. Always leading her friends to Christian relationships. And one of the things I love the most about my job at Kanakuk Kamp, I get to be the football coach. And I have 50 players every term in our kamp. 50 high school kids.

02:12 And most of them use their helmet and yes, to play the game, but like a crown of God. They use their football helmet as a mission field so that they can lead their team mates to Christ. I mean, we've got kids all over the country who have a vision to bring their whole team to Christ as they live their life above reproach on the field. And then I've got these adult friends. Tony Cimarusti in Detroit, Michigan. I love you Tony so much. The way Tony is a businessman and a hedge funds manager. Takes his funds and his time and his talent and his life to lead people all over Detroit to Christ by the way he lives. And by the way, he gives. And my wife is undoubtedly my hero. And the way that lady lives in the word in over the decades shares the word of God with the ladies in town.

03:04 You know what? Your crown may be a queen's crown. It maybe a football helmet. It may be a big portfolio in business. Uh, it may be good looks. But you know what? When your mission field is using your crown for him to build his crown of glory. I'm going to tell you there's a crown in heaven and wait for you. That's bigger than any crown possible on Earth. You preach it every day of your life by the way you live. May you wear your crown well. And here's the questions that I'd love for you to discuss today. In practical ways, how can you preach the Gospel in places where it's never been preached before? And, and then, uh, and then this question, you know, there's a mission field in far away Africa no doubt. But where is a mission field that you can enter today? And then lastly, what are some practical ways that you can preach the gospel besides using words? And here's our lifeline. We share this with you the other day, but from Mother Teresa said, witness always. use words when necessary.
