Episode Transcription:

00:14 Wow, I love opening presents. I just received this last night. I am excited. A new throw rug for my wife. I'm going to talk about opening a gift today, better than this. Jesus is in Matthew 25 verse 14, and he says this, "For it is just like a man about to go on a journey who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. To one, he gave five talents, to another, two, to another, one - each according to his own ability, and he went on his journey. Immediately, the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them and gained five more talent. In the same manner, the one who had received two talents gained two more, but he who received one talent went away and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. After a long time, the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. The one who had received five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, 'Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.' And his master said to him, 'Well done good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'"

01:37 I heard a slogan one time that I've never forgotten, and it said this, "Who you are is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift to God."

01:48 On September 19, 1967 in Flint, Michigan, a baby was born with only one hand. When he was in grade school, he didn't stand a chance when baseball season came around and all of his friends went out to play catch and hit the ball, but Jim Abbott had a dream, and he had the courage to backup his dream as a pitcher for the USA Olympic team. Believe it or not, he won the gold medal. As a New York Yankee, he stunned the world by being the first one-handed pitcher to ever throw a no hitter in a baseball game. Another one, Anthony Jerome Webb, was much too short to play the game he loved the most. His friends towered over him like Goliath. They rebounded over him, shot over him, and dunked over him. The most he would ever weigh would be 135 pounds. His maximum height would never exceed five-foot-seven. How could he ever achieve his dream? Well, Spud Webb, as we now know him, had a heart as big as he was, and he trained his God-given talent with sheer dedication. Anthony wasn't a star at North Carolina state, but that young man scored over 2,000 points as the NBA star and even won the slam dunk title in 1986 during the all-star weekend in his hometown, Dallas, Texas. Little Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles - too blind to see the keyboards. Beethoven's deafness barred him from ever hearing a note of his great compositions, but they too became some of the greatest composers and entertainers to ever live.

03:32 Man. The pages of history are literally packed with men and women who the world said had no talent. They didn't stand a chance, but they took God's gifts to them and invested them to the max every day until their dreams came true. I think as a parent, the greatest gift we can give our kids is dreaming dreams with them and helping their dreams come true. And if you're a teenager, and you're looking at this, you know what, the greatest gift you can give you're parents is to take the talents that you've been given and give them for the glory of God. Whatever God's given you, invest it and go make him proud.
