Episode Transcription:
00:11 Today we're going to look at an awesome story from John chapter four, verses six through 10, and it says this, "And Jacob's well was there, so Jesus being wearied from his journey was sitting by the well. It was about the sixth hour. There came a woman of Samaria to draw water, and Jesus said to her, 'Give me a drink,' for his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Therefore, the Samaritan woman said to him, 'How is it that you being a Jew ask me for a drink since I'm a Samaritan woman?' For Jews had no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, 'If you knew the gift of God and who it was who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.'"
01:04 Living water. What a thought. You know water, Coke and Gatorade, Dr Pepper, you name it. You know thirst quenching drinks are on the market. I heard one time that Gatorade paid Michael Jordan double-digit millions just to call him Mike. What an offer! You know, then I heard that Pepsi paid him double-digit millions to drink Pepsi in front of a TV camera. Who knows? But I know from my mission experience that is some starving countries, people will walk over 20 miles for a pitcher of water. It's amazing. You know, all drinks of all kinds have incredible value because of two things. One: people get thirsty. And two: drinks don't permanently quench a thirst, but Jesus said that he quenches your thirst for meaning and purpose in life, and you'll never thirst again as you continue to thirst in and live in him and his word.
03:02 And here's the questions for today. What authority did Jesus have when he told the woman that he was living water? And then why did Jesus called himself living water? And then the third question is this: why does a sincere follower of Christ never thirst for another drink? Not physically, but spiritually. And then the last question is this: how can someone get a drink of living water? And the thought for the day if you're with your family is this: how do you make your home an oasis? Give each other a drink today.
